止す (よす, yosu) — to stop — is a godan verb ending in す: よして (te-form), よした (past), よさない (negative), よします (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It is usually written in kana: よす rather than 止す. It also means to cease; to desist.

Only the last kana changes: す becomes さ, し, せ or そ.

Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
