Godan verb (う)

思うおもう

omou

to think · N4

思う (おもう, omou) — to think — is a godan verb ending in う: 思って (te-form), 思った (past), 思わない (negative), 思います (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to consider; to believe.

How 思う conjugates · godan う-verb

Only the last kana changes: う becomes わ, い, え or お.

Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
