用いる (もちいる, mochiiru) — to use — is an ichidan verb: 用いて (te-form), 用いた (past), 用いない (negative), 用います (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to make use of; to utilize.

Drop the る, then add the ending.

Nothing else moves: every ending attaches straight to the stem 用い. That is what makes ichidan the easy class.
