Godan verb (う)

酔うよう

you

to get drunk · N3

酔う (よう, you) — to get drunk — is a godan verb ending in う: 酔って (te-form), 酔った (past), 酔わない (negative), 酔います (polite).

It also means to become intoxicated.

How 酔う conjugates · godan う-verb

Only the last kana changes: う becomes わ, い, え or お.

Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
