Godan verb (う)

願うねがう

negau

to desire · N3

願う (ねがう, negau) — to desire — is a godan verb ending in う: 願って (te-form), 願った (past), 願わない (negative), 願います (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to wish; to hope.

How 願う conjugates · godan う-verb

Only the last kana changes: う becomes わ, い, え or お.

Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
