試す (ためす, tamesu) — to try — is a godan verb ending in す: 試して (te-form), 試した (past), 試さない (negative), 試します (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to have a try; to test.

How 試す conjugates · godan す-verb

Only the last kana changes: す becomes さ, し, せ or そ.

Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
