慰めるなぐさめる
nagusameru慰める (なぐさめる, nagusameru) — to comfort — is an ichidan verb: 慰めて (te-form), 慰めた (past), 慰めない (negative), 慰めます (polite).
It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to console; to amuse.

Drop the る, then add the ending.
Nothing else moves: every ending attaches straight to the stem 慰め. That is what makes ichidan the easy class.
