Ichidan verb
捉えるとらえる
toraeru捉える (とらえる, toraeru) — to catch — is an ichidan verb: 捉えて (te-form), 捉えた (past), 捉えない (negative), 捉えます (polite).
It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to capture; to seize.

Drop the る, then add the ending.
Nothing else moves: every ending attaches straight to the stem 捉え. That is what makes ichidan the easy class.
