演じる (えんじる, enjiru) — to act — is an ichidan verb: 演じて (te-form), 演じた (past), 演じない (negative), 演じます (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to play.

Drop the る, then add the ending.

Nothing else moves: every ending attaches straight to the stem 演じ. That is what makes ichidan the easy class.
