Godan verb (す)

訳すやくす

yakusu

to translate · N2

訳す (やくす, yakusu) — to translate — is a godan verb ending in す: 訳して (te-form), 訳した (past), 訳さない (negative), 訳します (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to interpret.

How 訳す conjugates · godan す-verb

Only the last kana changes: す becomes さ, し, せ or そ.

Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
