Ichidan verb
助けるたすける
tasukeru助ける (たすける, tasukeru) — to save — is an ichidan verb: 助けて (te-form), 助けた (past), 助けない (negative), 助けます (polite).
It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to rescue; to spare.

Drop the る, then add the ending.
Nothing else moves: every ending attaches straight to the stem 助け. That is what makes ichidan the easy class.

No sound changes and no vowel rows. The catch is telling ichidan from godan: plenty of godan verbs end in る too.
