Ichidan verb
重ねるかさねる
kasaneru重ねる (かさねる, kasaneru) — to pile up — is an ichidan verb: 重ねて (te-form), 重ねた (past), 重ねない (negative), 重ねます (polite).
It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to heap up; to stack up.

Drop the る, then add the ending.
Nothing else moves: every ending attaches straight to the stem 重ね. That is what makes ichidan the easy class.

No sound changes and no vowel rows. The catch is telling ichidan from godan: plenty of godan verbs end in る too.
