Godan verb (る)

捻るひねる

hineru

to twist · N2

捻る (ひねる, hineru) — to twist — is a godan verb ending in る: ひねって (te-form), ひねった (past), ひねらない (negative), ひねります (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It is usually written in kana: ひねる rather than 捻る. It also means to wrench; to turn.

How ひねる conjugates · godan る-verb

Only the last kana changes: る becomes ら, り, れ or ろ.

Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
