Ichidan verb
隔てるへだてる
hedateru隔てる (へだてる, hedateru) — to separate — is an ichidan verb: 隔てて (te-form), 隔てた (past), 隔てない (negative), 隔てます (polite).
It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to isolate; to partition.

Drop the る, then add the ending.
Nothing else moves: every ending attaches straight to the stem 隔て. That is what makes ichidan the easy class.

No sound changes and no vowel rows. The catch is telling ichidan from godan: plenty of godan verbs end in る too.
