Ichidan verb
始めるはじめる
hajimeru始める (はじめる, hajimeru) — to start — is an ichidan verb: 始めて (te-form), 始めた (past), 始めない (negative), 始めます (polite).
It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to begin; to commence.

Drop the る, then add the ending.
Nothing else moves: every ending attaches straight to the stem 始め. That is what makes ichidan the easy class.

No sound changes and no vowel rows. The catch is telling ichidan from godan: plenty of godan verbs end in る too.
