Godan verb (つ)

打つぶつ

butsu

to hit (someone) · N3

打つ (ぶつ, butsu) — to hit — is a godan verb ending in つ: ぶって (te-form), ぶった (past), ぶたない (negative), ぶちます (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It is usually written in kana: ぶつ rather than 打つ. It also means to strike; to beat.

How ぶつ conjugates · godan つ-verb

Only the last kana changes: つ becomes た, ち, て or と.

Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.

The て and た forms are the only two that don't follow this pattern. Every う-, つ- and る-verb has the same って there.
