寄せるよせる

yoseru

to come near · N2

寄せる (よせる, yoseru) — to come near — is an ichidan verb: 寄せて (te-form), 寄せた (past), 寄せない (negative), 寄せます (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to let someone approach.

How 寄せる conjugates · ichidan verb

Drop the る, then add the ending.

Nothing else moves: every ending attaches straight to the stem 寄せ. That is what makes ichidan the easy class.

寄せる dropsstem + ending
寄せない寄せないnegative · I don't move it closer. 寄せます寄せますpolite present 寄せて寄せてte-form · I move it closer and … 寄せた寄せたpast · I moved it closer. 寄せられる寄せられるpotential 寄せれば寄せればif · If I move it closer, ... 寄せよう寄せようvolitional · Let's move it closer.

No sound changes and no vowel rows. The catch is telling ichidan from godan: plenty of godan verbs end in る too.
