止める (やめる, yameru) — to stop — is an ichidan verb: やめて (te-form), やめた (past), やめない (negative), やめます (polite).

It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It is usually written in kana: やめる rather than 止める. It also means to cease; to discontinue.
