Godan verb (る)

閉まるしまる

shimaru

to be shut · N5

閉まる (しまる, shimaru) — to be shut — is a godan verb ending in る: 閉まって (te-form), 閉まった (past), 閉まらない (negative), 閉まります (polite).

It also means to close; to be closed.

How 閉まる conjugates · godan る-verb

Only the last kana changes: る becomes ら, り, れ or ろ.

Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
