Godan verb (る)
遡るさかのぼる
sakanoboru遡る (さかのぼる, sakanoboru) — to go upstream — is a godan verb ending in る: さかのぼって (te-form), さかのぼった (past), さかのぼらない (negative), さかのぼります (polite).
It is usually written in kana: さかのぼる rather than 遡る. It also means to go up.

Only the last kana changes: る becomes ら, り, れ or ろ.
Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
