Godan verb (う)
誓うちかう
chikau誓う (ちかう, chikau) — to swear — is a godan verb ending in う: 誓って (te-form), 誓った (past), 誓わない (negative), 誓います (polite).
It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to vow; to take an oath.

Only the last kana changes: う becomes わ, い, え or お.
Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
