Godan verb (う)
洗うあらう
arau洗う (あらう, arau) — to wash — is a godan verb ending in う: 洗って (te-form), 洗った (past), 洗わない (negative), 洗います (polite).
It is transitive: it takes a direct object. It also means to cleanse; to rinse.

Only the last kana changes: う becomes わ, い, え or お.
Which one depends on the ending. The five are one line of the hiragana chart — same consonant, vowels あ・い・う・え・お — and everything before that kana never changes.
