勿体ないもったいない
mottainai勿体ない (もったいない, mottainai) — wasteful — is an い-adjective: もったいなかった (past), もったいなくない (negative), もったいなくて (te-form), もったいないです (polite).
It is usually written in kana: もったいない rather than 勿体ない. It also means a waste.

Drop the final い, then add the ending.
Every form is built on the stem もったいな. The one that isn't: the polite present, which is the whole word plus です.
